Maguire Welcome Center
Each year hundreds of prospective students, parents, professionals, school groups, sign language classes and other visitors tour Gallaudet University. Dangermond Keane was hired to transform the existing campus visitor center, located in a drab two story space in a 1950’s academic office building, into a new “front door” that projects Gallaudet’s recently updated campus/brand identity, its unique history, its academic programs and campus life. Priority was placed on improving visitor flow, updating exhibits and creating a dynamic orientation space. The project was designed to be carefully tuned to Deaf sensibilities with a focus on accessibility and visual language. The multi-media exhibits were developed in English and ASL through collaboration with the University and C&G Partners. A large mural by artist Yiqiao Wang envelops an informal conference space.
