Sanford Lab/Homestake Visitor Center
The 8,400 sf Sanford Laboratory/Homestake Visitor Center provides public education and outreach for the Sanford Underground Research Laboratory. The project is located on the edge of the “Open Cut” in Lead, South Dakota, the massive surface portion of the former Homestake Gold Mine. Exhibits (by C&G Partners) explain the unique science at the Laboratory and interpret the historic and cultural setting of Homestake, the City of Lead, and the Laboratory. The building also houses offices for the Lead Chamber of Commerce, classroom space, and a retail store.
