Innovation Lab/6th Street Corridor

At Gallaudet University in Washington DC there is an emerging idea that reframes deafness from the traditional notion of hearing loss to that of “Deaf-gain”. From this perspective deaf people are not defined by what they lack, but by their highly visual, spatial and kinetic ways of knowing and communicating. Working with the campus, DKA developed a concept plan to transform the south west corner of the campus, connecting it to the surrounding neighborhood and creating new spaces for collaboration and research based on the Deaf-gain concept.
